Salisbury Morse Place School Recreational Master Plan, Manitoba

Introduction

In 2020, the staff at École Salisbury Morse Place School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, discovered an opportunity to apply their mission to provide lifelong learning in a safe, supportive and caring atmosphere to their school’s outdated recreational area. The client then engaged Nadi Group to host a design charette and complete a recreational master plan for the school.

Project Summary

The project started off with a design charette that provided school staff with the opportunity to tell their vision of the school’s future. From there, we generated a wish-list, which included not only “wants” and “needs”, but “not-so-great” items currently found in the recreational area. After dividing the staff into three groups, they established precedents for the area from items on the wish-list, which coincidentally found the same top three choices: an accessible play, a natural play area with climbing wall and a medicine wheel outdoor classroom.

Our Role

In addition to hosting the design charrette and synthesizing the data from it, we designed the contributor’s recreational master plan and created the design package. The design package consisted of a 29-page story of the process and how it informed the new recreational master plan.
