The Nadi Group started the Water Bend Park Fountain project with two different visions: the developer, who wanted an elegant fountain that would become a distinctive gathering place within the community and the City of Winnipeg, that wanted low maintenance and energy efficient children’s splash park. Our answer: Why not do both?
We used elegant slate obelisks with perforated metal detailing to encircle the fountain and define its edge. To add further definition, we took concrete and water-resistant recycled wood benches that matched the fountain’s curved edge. We designed the fountain to sit at ground level to make sure children could run safely and play in a fully accessible splash park. In the evening, we used LED lighting oriented at the base and top of the fountain’s obelisks—careful to not contribute to light pollution—adding a starlight sparkle to the entire plaza and serving as a wayfinding beacon throughout the community.
We provided landscape architecture services for each phase such as creating the schematic design, finalizing the design development, tendering construction documents and performing contract administration.
