INTRODUCTION
As the urban design lead, Smith Carter Architects and Engineers retained the Nadi Group to help them create a master plan for Red River College’s Downtown campus.
PROJECT SUMMARY
We researched and identified which of the college’s programming would benefit from moving to the Downtown campus—within a predefined precinct—and presented our financial analysis of those opportunities to the client. Other considerations we identified and presented included a review and preservation strategy of the historic streetscapes in the precinct and a study of pedestrian activity on campus. We consulted with college stakeholders, student representatives and the design team, which we compiled into a comprehensive document that included our analysis and conclusions for the master plan. We recommended a site that is within a three-minute walking radius of the precinct and is capable of accommodating the college’s programs and providing students, staff and instructors with a pedestrian favoured urban campus.
OUR ROLE
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, our role consisted of assisting Smith Carter with the development of the masterplan. Our common objective for this project aimed to set out criteria for growth and provide a framework for the college to make educated responses to real estate acquisition opportunities.
