The City of Chicago envisioned a European-style plaza shared by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers for a three-block stretch of Argyle Street, between Broadway and Sheridan Road.
The city had several goals for this new development such as bringing more shoppers into the area, improving the neighbourhood’s safety between walkers, bikers and drivers, and decreasing instances of excess stormwater and flooding.
The Nadi Group produced two renderings of Argyle street for international engineering firm Burns & McDonnell, incorporating the city’s objectives into the design, including raising the road to sidewalk level to eliminate curbs that potentially deter pedestrians and cyclists from using the space. The two renderings taken from opposite ends of the street section were vital in articulating the overall vision to the community and shareholders.
