Shell.ter, Manitoba

Introduction

Since 2009, the Warming Huts Art & Architecture Competition on Ice has been melding world-class design and art with Winnipeg’s famous winters. The competition attracts entries from across the globe, and Shell.ter was a Nadi Group Submission for the 2020 design competition. The competition features art installations submitted by various artists and architects that are placed along the frozen Red River and Assiniboine River for the community to enjoy. The Warming Huts are the product of a recurring exercise in design and construction that takes place on the frozen rivers of Winnipeg every winter with limitless design variations allowing a lot of freedom for concept exploration.

Project Summary

Shell.ter is both a play on words and a manifestation of bio-mimicry using hay.
